The Office of Student Affairs hosted the Scholarship and Financial Aid Donor Appreciation Reception 2024-25 on 30 April to express the University’s gratitude to its donors for their generosity and continuous support. It also provided an opportunity for beneficiaries to personally thank the donors. Themed “Our Dreams” this year, the reception brought together approximately 230 donors, staff, and students.
In his welcoming speech, Professor Alex Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor, shared that in the academic year 2024-25, more than 2,900 scholarships and 150 bursaries and emergency grants were awarded to students, totalling about HK$109 million. He expressed his appreciation to the donors for not only easing students’ financial burdens, but also motivating them to strive for academic excellence and holistic personal development. He highlighted the impact of the First-Generation University Student Fund, which has supported over 2,100 students since its establishment in 2017, enabling them to realise their potential and engage in diverse learning opportunities beyond the traditional classroom setting.
During the reception, Michelle Ching Suet-tan (Social Work), recipient of the Shum Lum Kam Chu First-Generation University Student Scholarship, and Nazareno Anasofia Caterinna Son (Visual Arts), recipient of the Jockey Club Scholarship, performed the song “I Have A Dream”. This was followed by a discussion hosted by English Language and Literature student Esther Tam Hei-yin, which featured Michelle and other scholarship recipients, Lau Tsui-tung MoJai (Music) and Azuro Telesforo Jude III Mapus (Finance), sharing their talents, achievements, personal aspirations and dreams.
