The Department of Social Work organised the InnoFamily Award, an initiative under the Jockey Club SMART Family-Link Project, to encourage tertiary students to leverage Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in family services to innovatively address challenges faced by families in Hong Kong.

The InnoFamily Award attracted over 200 students from 14 local tertiary institutions. After embarking on an eight-month creative learning journey, the top five teams entered the grand final on 17 May, where the top three were recognised in the presence of representatives from various institutions, social welfare leaders and innovation pioneers.

In his speech at the grand final, Professor Daniel Wong Fu-keung, Chair Professor of the Department of Social Work and Co-Principal Investigator of the Jockey Club SMART Family-Link Project, said that participants included higher diploma students, undergraduates and postgraduates from a diverse range of academic disciplines, such as social sciences, mathematics, science, engineering, information technology, humanities and arts. The initiative represents a unique blend of diversity and creativity.

The five finalist teams presented their projects and answered questions from four judges from the innovation and social welfare sectors. After careful deliberation, the team “GingFM”, consisting of three undergraduates, won the championship with a parenting ecosystem designed to support caregivers of children with special educational needs.

The first runner-up was awarded to “Daddy Rescue”, which aims to empower first-time fathers through gamified parenting education. The second runner-up went to “NeuroAllies” for creating a user-friendly employment support digital platform for young neurodivergent individuals. The winning teams received cash prizes of HK$20,000, HK$10,000 and HK$5,000, sponsored by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.

The event also featured the Best Poster Award determined by onsite voting, with the top three teams—“Caring Coder”, “GingFM” and “Daddy Rescue” —each receiving a HK$2,000 cash prize.
