HKBU honours staff with Professor Emeritus titles, Retirement and Long Service Awards

HKBU hosted the Milestone In Service Ceremony 2025 on 25 June, conferring the honorary title of Professor Emeritus to five professors and presenting awards to more than 200 retirees and long-serving colleagues in recognition of their hard work and contributions.

At the ceremony, Professor Alex Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor, expressed his gratitude to the awardees for their years of dedication to the University. The Professors Emeritus, listed by department, are:

  • Professor Vivian Sheer (Department of Communication Studies)
  • Professor Gina Lai Wan-foon (Academy of Geography, Sociology and International Studies)
  • Professor Steve Guo Zhongshi (Department of Journalism)
  • Professor Henry Fock Kwong-yin (Department of Management, Marketing and Information Systems)
  • Professor Gerard Paul Joseph Prendergast (Department of Management, Marketing and Information Systems)

A total of 40 retiring colleagues were honoured for their dedicated service, and over 170 awardees who have served the University for 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 or 35 years were presented with the Long Service Awards.
