The Faculty of Science hosted its annual flagship event, the Science Festival 2025, on 4 July, with the theme, “Science Meets Health”. Sponsored by the HKBU Century Club, the event aimed to explore the intersection of scientific innovation and human well-being.

The Science Festival featured a diverse array of activities, including workshops and laboratory visits. One of the highlights was the Science Stars Health Challenge, which engaged 110 secondary school students, divided into teams of five, in tasks designed to spark curiosity and foster innovative thinking about personal health and vitality. These tasks included Discovery Health Science workshops and quiz challenges.

The Discovery Health Science workshops were organised by the five departments of the Faculty of Science. The Department of Biology hosted the “Tiny Worms Big Impact: Nematodes in Health and Environment” workshop, where students examined live nematodes under microscopes, explored their natural habitats, and studied their dietary preferences through feeding experiments. The Department of Computer Science presented the “Building AI Chatbot for Choosing Healthy Food” workshop, guiding students in creating an AI chatbot to interpret nutrition labels and promote healthier food choices.

Additional highlights included scientific demonstrations and an exhibition to deepen participants’ engagement with science. The Department of Chemistry delivered the “Forensic Toxicology and Drug Analysis” demonstration, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to analyse and identify illicit substances. The Department of Physics showcased the “HealthTech Innovators: Fun with Wearable Health Devices” demonstration, showing students how to use wearable technology to monitor essential health metrics. Visitors also joined the “MathRomance” workshop and the graduation exhibition of students from the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science during the event.
