Faculty and students from the School of Communication achieved multiple awards at the 75th Annual International Communication Association (ICA) Conference.
Professor Timothy Fung, Associate Professor of the Department of Interactive Media; Professor Leanne Chang, Associate Professor of the Department of Communication Studies; and PhD candidate Leo Leung Ho-man received the Best Poster Award in the Health Communication Division for their project, “Understanding Self-Rated Health: Examining the Mediating Effect of Self-Efficacy”. Their study, highlighting the role of self-efficacy in health perceptions, has been published in World Medical & Health Policy.
PhD student Mike Zhang earned the Top Student Paper Award in the Organizational Communication Division for his insightful paper, “Gossip Hurts More in the Tower of Babel: Linguistic Ostracism Facilitates the Influence of Self-Perceived Negative Workplace Gossip on Gossip Targets’ Organisation-Based Self-Esteem”.
Another PhD student, Bohan Zhang, was honoured with the Outstanding Graduate Student Teaching Award, presented by the International Chinese Communication Association (ICCA) at the ICCA Reception during the conference. Over the past two years, Bohan has taught two master’s level courses: Approaches and Methods in Communication Research at HKBU and Statistical Analysis in Communication at Beijing Normal–Hong Kong Baptist University.
