A team of HKBU students and alumni ranked among the Top 10 and secured a HK$100,000 start-up seed fund at this year’s Cyberport University Partnership Programme (CUPP), standing out from 500 teams representing 12 local universities.
Nominated and supported by the Career Centre at the Office of Student Affairs, the team Sign Language Make Easy (SLME) comprises students Dalal Ismatbanu Junedbhai (Computer Science - Artificial Intelligence) and Asma Mohammad (Business Computing and Data Analytics), along with alumni Dhar Kartikay (Economics and Data Analytics). Their AI-powered smart glasses are designed to enhance daily communication for the deaf-mute community, fostering greater accessibility and inclusivity. The funding will help the team transform their prototype into reality.
Throughout the programme, SLME participated in intensive local training, attended an inspiring bootcamp at Draper University in Silicon Valley, the US, and showcased their project at Demo Day.
Launched in 2015 and supported by the Cyberport Creative Micro Fund, CUPP is a highly respected entrepreneurship programme that nurtures future FinTech leaders through boot camps, mentorship, and competitions. This year’s focus areas included AI, blockchain, cybersecurity, and data science—empowering the next generation of tech-savvy innovators.
