Seven HKBU first-year undergraduate students for the 2024/25 academic year have been awarded the 5th cohort of the AIA Scholarships, in recognition of their outstanding academic performance and strong commitment to community service and charitable work. Organised by the AIA Foundation, the scholarship presentation ceremony 2025 was held on 3 October.
The awardees include Chan Wan-ying (Biochemical and Testing Sciences), Jenny Chow Yan-shuen (Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation), Lee Chui-yu (History), Lee Sin-yi (Finance), Leung Ching-fei (Sociology), Georgina Lo Tsz-yu (Chinese Medicine and Biomedical Science) and Yang Chuyao (Applied Biology - Biotechnology). The inspiring journey of Jenny Chow Yan-shuen was featured in a short video shown during the ceremony. She is not only an outstanding student entrepreneur but has also overcome challenges related to special educational needs, demonstrating remarkable perseverance. The AIA Foundation specially selected mooncake gift boxes produced by Jenny’s social enterprise as souvenirs for the ceremony.
Guests at the ceremony included Professor Amy Lee, Director of Student Affairs, along with three HKBU graduates who were recipients of the AIA Scholarships in the 2nd cohort. The event provided an inspiring platform to connect with representatives from local tertiary institutions, industry partners, and the broader student community.
Launched in 2020, the AIA Scholarships has pledged US$100 million to support 100 undergraduate students annually over the coming decades. Each scholarship is valued at HK$50,000 per annum and is renewable, subject to the students’ performance. It also provides students with opportunities to participate in enriching activities, ranging from community service and leadership development programmes. In the past five years, a total of 36 HKBU students have received the AIA Scholarships.
