The House of Scholars, a leadership development scheme launched by the Office of Student Affairs, hosted a luncheon on 23 October, where 15 students presented their transdisciplinary project ideas to a distinguished panel of internal and external advisors with diverse expertise. The outcomes of their projects will be evaluated in March 2026 and three outstanding students will be honoured as Fellows of the House of Scholars and may have the opportunity to represent HKBU at local and international events.

These proposals spanned a wide range of impactful topics, including using artificial intelligence to preserve Cantonese opera, a mental health support chatbot, a play kit designed to alleviate medical anxiety in children with terminal illnesses, an elderly-friendly knowledge exchange platform, and an immersive art exhibition featuring works by children with special education needs.

Launched as a pilot programme in the second semester of the 2024/25 academic year by the Office of Student Affairs’ Leadership Qualities Center, the House of Scholars welcomed its first cohort of six students, who received mentoring from esteemed external advisors to advance their personal and professional ambitions. Among them, the then fifth-year students Chan Chin-ching and Tsang Sze-nga, who are pursuing Bachelor of Chinese Medicine and Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Biomedical Science, co-founded the Hong Kong Youth Association of Chinese Medicine. Within five months, the association organised 11 community outreach events, benefiting over 1,300 individuals, including the elderly, caregivers, ethnic minorities, domestic helpers, and children. They were even invited by members of the Legislative Council to exchange their views on the healthcare policy.

The House of Scholars aims to cultivate high-achieving students with a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or above. The initiative provides students with opportunities to deepen their learning through collaboration across disciplines and transdisciplinary idea development, enabling them to broaden their knowledge and develop into visionary and change-making leaders.
