The Chaplain’s Office held the 69th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service at the University Chapel on 5 March. The University community, including the Council and the Court Members, faculty and staff, students, alumni, donors and supporters gathered to commemorate God’s guidance in the founding of HKBU and to express gratitude for His continued care. The guest speaker was Rev Dr Philip Chan, Senior Pastor of Hong Kong Baptist Church and President of the Hong Kong Hymn Society. The theme of his message was “Love One Another.” He encouraged everyone to follow Jesus’ example by practising the true meaning of love through actions and truth, especially by caring for the most vulnerable groups.
Professor Alex Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, delivered a speech via video, expressing heartfelt thanks for Rev Dr Philip Chan’s message. He stated that HKBU is committed to nurturing students to become responsible, compassionate, resilient individuals with a global perspective, in keeping with the vision of the University's founders.
Ir Professor Paul Poon, Deputy Chairman of the Council and the Court, read the University's mission statement, and Dr Eddie Ho, a Court Member, read the holy scripture during the service. Student music groups under the Chaplain’s Office, including the Christian Choir, Christian Band, and Mandarin Choir, praised God’s love and grace through music. Professor Martin Wong, Provost, presented a commemorative gift to the guest speaker on behalf of the University.
The event concluded with a group photo, where all attendees responded to the theme’s message with a gesture of love, ending the gathering in joy and laughter.
