HKBU has secured the Merit Award under the “New Buildings Category: Completed Projects – Institutional” at the Green Building Award (GBA) 2025 for its Jockey Club Campus of Creativity (JC³). The award, jointly organised by the Hong Kong Green Building Council and the Professional Green Building Council, recognises the University’s  excellence in sustainable design and its efforts towards carbon neutrality.

Professor Johnny M Poon, Associate Vice-President (Interdisciplinary Research) and Founding Dean of the School of Creative Arts, and Ms Kay Choy, Director of Estates, represented the University to receive the award on 13 November 2025 at the GBA 2025 Award Presentation Dinner.

The jury commented that this landmark project redefines urban educational spaces with ingenuity and impact. It showcases the visionary implementation of a mixed-use building, with exceptional ventilation, enhanced connectivity, and the creation of a vibrant public space that has been warmly embraced by students and the campus community.

The jury also commended the development for having masterfully integrated learning, living, and social functions within a vertically configured mini-campus, fully optimising the compact site. The innovative stepped building profile enhances natural light and air circulation, with breezeways and a central courtyard ensuring superior ventilation and reducing energy use.

JC³, designed as an innovative "campus within a building," integrates Village CARE (Creative Arena for Residential Education) and a Jockey Club Creative Hub in one complex, embracing a large central courtyard that extends the University’s main circulation spine. Its eco-friendly features include interlocking residential blocks atop an academic podium with stepped heights to enhance natural lighting and ventilation. In addition, the development widely adopts various advanced energy-efficient technologies, fully realising the vision of low-carbon living.

Held biennially, the 2025 GBA adopted the theme "Towards Carbon Neutrality • Excellence in Sustainable Built Environment."
