HKBU organises “BU Alumni Ensemble in Guangzhou” to celebrate its 70th Anniversary

The Alumni Affairs Office held the "BU Alumni Ensemble in Guangzhou" in November 2025, hosting over 320 alumni and friends from Guangzhou and its neighbouring regions. The event celebrated HKBU’s upcoming 70th anniversary under the theme “Celebrating 70 Years of Excellence: Embracing Transdisciplinarity, Research, and Innovation”.

In his welcome remarks, Professor Alex Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, shared the University’s latest global university rankings, the developments and achievements of transdisciplinary education and campus developments, and several prominent research projects and academic events in art-tech, humanities and culture. He said these achievements and initiatives underscore the University’s unwavering commitment to advancing innovation and transforming research outputs into tangible benefits for society, while celebrating its remarkable journey towards its 70th anniversary.

Professor Wai was joined on stage by Dr Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning); Professor Daniel Lai, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences; Professor Zhang Han, Dean of the School of Business; Professor Zhong Bu, Dean of the School of Communication; and Professor Michael Ng, Dean of the Faculty of Science, to officiate at a ceremonial act in which the University’s 70th Anniversary logo and slogan were displayed on a large screen, signifying the upcoming year-long celebration.

The event was attended by Dr Jacinto Tong, member of the Council and the Court of HKBU, HKBU Honorary University Fellow and President of the HKBU Alumni Association, who also sponsored the event; Dr Chiu Chun-bong, HKBU Honorary Doctorate and alumnus; and members of the Alumni Committee of the HKBU Foundation, the HKBU Century Club, the HKBU MBA (China) Alumni Association (MBA (China) AA); the HKBU Alumni Association of the Greater Bay Area (GBAAA), the HKBU Alumni Association of Macau, HKBU Alumni Runner, and Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University. Representatives of the GBAAA and the MBA (China) AA also took the opportunity to present gifts to Professor Wai to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the alma mater
