The Malay edition of Chinese Medicinal Identification: An Illustrated Approach, compiled by Professor Zhao Zhongzhen, Professor Emeritus, and Professor Chen Hubiao, Associate Director of the Teaching and Research Division at the School of Chinese Medicine, was officially launched in Kuala Lumpur on 26 January.
Co-published by the Traditional and Complementary Medicine Division of the Ministry of Health Malaysia, and the Forest Research Institute Malaysia, the book highlights the School’s efforts in promoting the internationalisation of research outputs. It also fosters the dissemination and application of Chinese medicine knowledge in Malaysia and across Southeast Asia.
Since the publication of its Chinese edition in 2010, the book has been translated into multiple languages including English, Japanese, Korean, German, Russian, Vietnamese and Portuguese, and distributed worldwide. It features over 400 commonly used Chinese medicinal materials, with clear, richly illustrated descriptions of each material’s characteristics, provenance, harvesting methods, and medicinal information. Drawing on over 40 years of research and fieldwork by the editorial team across China and more than 50 countries and regions, it is widely recognised as an authoritative international reference for the identification of Chinese medicinal materials.
