The Career Centre under the Office of Student Affairs and the Knowledge Transfer Office co‑organised the Greater Bay Area (GBA) Start‑up Exploration Trip to Qianhai on 17 March. Sixty faculty members and students visited cutting-edge institutions and innovation ecosystems that support youth innovation and entrepreneurship. The trip offered participants an in-depth understanding of Qianhai’s latest planning, policy trends, and the development of its thriving innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.

The delegation was received by Mr Gary Wong Chi‑him, Chief Hong Kong and Macao Liaison Expert at the Authority of Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone of Shenzhen Municipality. He outlined Hong Kong’s positioning within the GBA and encouraged students to seize emerging opportunities in the region’s collaborative development, reflect on their personal aspirations and explore broader career pathways.

The group was among the first to visit HKBU’s newly established Qianhai Institute for Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the University’s first dedicated innovation platform and start-up incubation hub in Qianhai. They learned about the Institute’s start-up resources and support initiatives offered to innovators and entrepreneurs

They also toured the Qianhai Exhibition Hall, the Qianhai Shenzhen–Hong Kong Youth Innovation and Entrepreneur Hub, and Qianhai Hong Kong Youth Short Term Apartments, gaining insights into Qianhai’s strategic vision, development blueprint and living supports designed for young talents from Hong Kong. The trip concluded with visits to WeBank, the first private digital bank in the Chinese Mainland, and LimX Dynamics, an AI-driven humanoid robotics company, where participants explored cutting-edge developments in inclusive fintech and embodied intelligence robotics.
