Five undergraduate students and one postdoctoral research fellow from HKBU have been awarded scholarships and a fellowship by The Hong Kong Jockey Club, in recognition of their exceptional academic achievements and unwavering dedication to community service. Dr Sunny N C Chai, Deputy Chairman of the Council and the Court; Professor Alex Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor; and Professor Amy Lee, Director of Student Affairs of HKBU, attended The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships and Fellowships Award Presentation Ceremony and High Table Dinner on 28 April to extend their heartfelt congratulations to the recipients.
Cheung Lok-hei (Chinese Medicine and Biomedical Science), Nazareno Anasofia Caterinna Son (Visual Arts) and Ng Hoi-fung (Biochemical and Testing Sciences) have been awarded The Hong Kong Jockey Club Compassionate Leader Scholarship 2024-25, in recognition of their outstanding academic achievements, well-rounded development, and strong commitment to serving key sectors of Hong Kong society through their chosen fields. Qiu Chi-fan (Bachelor of Arts) and Chen Ting-kwan (Bachelor of Science) have received The Hong Kong Jockey Club Striding On Scholarship 2025-26, celebrating their determination and resilience in overcoming life challenges.
Dr Di Xueni, a postdoctoral research fellow, has been granted the JC STEM Early Career Research Fellowship for Translation and Application. Her pioneering research involves engineering microbes to synthesise valuable natural compounds typically extracted from plants, thereby advancing innovation in sustainable bio-manufacturing. The Fellowship will provide comprehensive support for her efforts to advance technological innovations in this field.
Since its inception in 1998, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships have sought to foster leadership among talented individuals who are driven by compassion and a strong sense of social responsibility. The Club also established the JC STEM Early Career Research Fellowship for Translation and Application in 2024 to nurture a pool of promising young STEM researchers aspiring to translate scientific findings into industry applications. A total of 110 scholarships and 10 fellowships were presented at the event.
