HKBU honours staff members with Professor Emeritus Titles, Retirement and Long Service Awards

HKBU hosted the Milestone in Service Ceremony 2026 on 24 June, conferring the honorary titles of Professor Emeritus and presenting awards to retiring and long-serving colleagues in recognition of their hard work and contributions.

At the ceremony, Professor Alex Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor, expressed his gratitude to the awardees for their years of dedication to the University.

This year, the five Professors Emeritus (listed by department name in English) are:

  • Professor Kwan Kai-man (Academy of Chinese, History, Religion, and Philosophy)
  • Professor Zhang Hongsheng (Academy of Chinese, History, Religion, and Philosophy)
  • Professor Kara Chan (Department of Communication Studies)
  • Professor Kineta Hung (Department of Communication Studies)
  • Professor So Shu-kong (Department of Physics)

A total of 29 retiring colleagues were honoured for their dedicated service, and around 190 awardees who have served the University for 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 or 35 years were presented with the Long Service Awards.
