HKBU proudly assumes HUCOM Convenorship, joining forces with local universities at EAIE 2026 to promote Hong Kong as an international education hub

As HKBU assumes the Convenorship of the Heads of Universities Committee (HUCOM) for 2026–2027, it participated in the European Association for International Education (EAIE) 2026 Conference in Glasgow, the United Kingdom, together with fellow universities funded by the University Grants Committee (UGC), from 8 to 11 September.

Led by Professor James Tang, Secretary-General of the UGC, the delegation comprising senior representatives from the UGC and fellow universities actively engaged in academic dialogue, highlighting the research excellence, academic strengths and international appeal of Hong Kong’s higher education landscape on the world stage.

As the Convenor of HUCOM, HKBU is dedicated to driving strategic academic partnerships and promoting the “Study in Hong Kong” brand globally. In a thematic panel titled “Shaping the Future through Tech, Talent and Transformation”, Dr Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) of HKBU, joined Professor James Tang and Professor Jennifer Lin, Associate Vice-President (Global Strategy) of City University of Hong Kong. Speaking on the panel, Dr Chau offered his insights on integrating technology and talent to empower students, highlighting HKBU’s commitment to innovation in teaching and learning.

A highlight of the delegation’s outreach was the “Study in Hong Kong” dinner reception held at Glasgow’s historic City Halls and Old Fruitmarket. Welcoming around 240 delegates from 32 countries and regions, the event provided a platform to promote Hong Kong, share the city’s latest educational developments, and foster international partnerships.

Throughout the conference, Dr Chau joined Professor James Tang in exchanges with global education leaders, cultivating professional networks and strengthening international partnerships. Looking ahead, HKBU will continue to expand its global academic and research networks, further advance internationalisation, and remain committed to reinforcing Hong Kong’s position as a leading hub for education, research and innovation, while enhancing the global impact of the local higher education sector.
