HKBU welcomes 600 international and exchange students with orientation and integration programme

To welcome the new cohort of international and exchange students and foster cultural exchange, the HKBU International Office has launched a semester-long integration programme, which allows students to broaden their global perspectives and develop lasting friendships. The initiative commenced on 26 August with a welcoming ceremony that brought together 600 students from more than 54 countries and regions.

Dr Allan Zeman, Chairman of the Lan Kwai Fong Group, delivered a keynote address as an officiating guest at the welcoming ceremony. Sharing insights from his remarkable life journey, he encouraged students to embrace challenges and view setbacks as opportunities for growth and remain open to new experiences. He also urged them to make the most of their time in Hong Kong by engaging with different cultures and perspectives.

Dr Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) of HKBU, encouraged students to leverage the opportunities ahead and diverse experience learning beyond the classroom, expressing his hope that their journey would be filled with discoveries exceeding their own expectations and imagination.

The incoming exchange students were eager to begin their studies in Hong Kong. Among them, Savannah Peischl, an Environmental Science major from the United States, said she was looking forward to exploring her subjects from a new perspective at HKBU. Meanwhile, Milad Gamor, a Business Administration student from Germany, expressed his excitement for immersing himself in the local culture and meeting new people.

The integration programme features a series of engaging activities throughout the semester. Local and international students have already participated in a team-building experience at Hong Kong's largest indoor sports park and attended the acclaimed musical Pan Yu Lin, which offered insights into Chinese history and artistic achievement. Upcoming activities include an immersive tour of the Greater Bay Area featuring visits to enterprises and Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University , as well as a visit to the Hong Kong Police Force's Tactical Unit Headquarters to witness a Passing Out Parade. These activities provide valuable opportunities for students to deepen their understanding of the development of Hong Kong, Mainland China and the Greater Bay Area.
