On 15 August, the Knowledge Transfer Office of HKBU and the Junior Chamber International Dragon co-hosted the “Asia Pacific Intellectual Property Creative Summit 2026”. Themed “Empowering Hong Kong’s Creative Economy through IP Innovation”, the summit brought together experts and leaders from academia, the cultural and creative industries, and the investment sector. By connecting the intellectual property (IP) value chain, the summit explored how to effectively transform creativity into scalable and sustainable commercial outcomes, thereby promoting the development of the local creative industries.

Mr Wong Fuk-loi, Director of the Intellectual Property Department of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, underscoring the important role of IP in Hong Kong’s creative economy. The summit featured a series of panel discussions covering topics such as IP creation, management, operations, protection mechanisms, and commercialisation strategies. Participants shared valuable insights on building and nurturing IPs with market potential, licensing models, financing and investment pathways, cross-sector collaboration, and market expansion, building a robust platform for exchange and cooperation within the industry.

Ms Zoie So, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Interactive Media of the HKBU School of Communication, participated in a panel discussion, sharing her professional experience in IP brand strategy and operational management, and addressing the synergistic effects between nurturing IP talent and industry commercialisation.

A concurrent showcase featured a variety of cultural and creative exhibits based on original IPs, highlighting the latest practical achievements and practices of local creators in brand building, content operations, and market applications. Among them, “Doughn’t Eat Me!”, an original IP created by three students from the Department of Interactive Media of the HKBU School of Communication, made a compelling appearance. Their work personifies various types of bread from around the world, telling the story of breaking free from the confines of the oven to venture into the world in search of self-identity.
