The Leadership Qualities Centre of the Office of Student Affairs organised a Cultural and Economic Study Tour to Spain from 1 to 11 January, sponsored by the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau and Youth Development Commission. 25 participating students explored the vibrant cities of Madrid, Toledo and Barcelona, with activities including visits to local institutions and engagements with local youth.
The students visited the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Spain and the Huawei office to understand China’s investment and influence in Spain. They also toured the Confucius Institute in Barcelona to learn about its role in promoting Chinese culture. The group explored Toledo, a UNSECO World Heritage Site, studied Gaudi’s iconic architectural works and visited Telefónica, Spain’s largest telecommunications company, gaining valuable insights into Spanish culture, history, and economic development.
Through a series of activities, including games and a Fai Chun workshop, the students introduced Chinese New Year traditions to the local community. These initiatives not only promoted Chinese culture but also built friendships between HKBU students and the local residents, fostering cross-cultural understanding and exchange.
