Champion athletes share their experience of tackling challenges at SEED Talk

At the SEED Talk entitled “The Joy of Effort” on 31 July, Mr Wong Kam-po, Asian Games cycling gold medalist and Programme Development Executive of the Sports Legacy Scheme, spoke about how sport nurtured his sportsmanship, which enabled him to move on positively after he retired from professional cycling. He encouraged students to set goals and pursue them in a determined way, as victory will finally go to those who persevere. He suggested that young people should not confine themselves to one thing, but keep on adding value to themselves and embrace joyfulness through the process of realising their goals.

HKBU alumnus Mr Chan King-yin, Asian Games windsurfing gold medalist and Head Windsurfing Coach of the Hong Kong Sports Institute, said at the Talk that students should dare to try in order to discover the right direction for themselves. To achieve their goals, they should persevere unremittingly, equip themselves progressively and grasp the opportunities along the way. He also spoke about his life as a full-time athlete, and pointed out that if you have a passion for sport, and enjoy partaking in such activities, you will discover the happiness behind all the difficulties. 

Moderated by Professor Chung Pak-kwong, Associate Dean (Development) of the Faculty of Social Sciences, the two Asian Games gold medalists had a conversation with Andrew Cheng and Kenny Ho, Physical Education and Recreation Management Year 4 students.
