HKBU enrols ten elite athletes on its undergraduate programmes

28 Oct 2021

HKBU has enrolled ten top athletes on its undergraduate programmes through its Elite Athletes Admission Scheme (EAAS) this year. The athletes specialise in karatedo, handball, rugby, artistic swimming, football, shuttlecock and lifesaving. It is the first time that a shuttlecock athlete has joined through the Scheme.

The ten student athletes are either current or former members of Hong Kong sports teams. Nine of them are admitted to the Physical Education and Recreation Management programme and one to the Applied Biology programme.

The scholarship presentation ceremony was held on 28 October. Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor, presented certificates to the scholarship recipients at the ceremony.

Professor Julien Baker, Head of the Department of Sport, Physical Education and Health, said in his speech that he hopes the best student athletes join the University through the EAAS, and that he was very excited by the diversity contained within the EAAS cohort, with a broad range of sports included.

Launched in 2016, the EAAS accepts local athletes’ applications through the JUPAS and Non-JUPAS admission schemes.
