Sharing hope and strength with Hongkongers through music

10 Mar 2022

As the latest wave of the COVID-19 pandemic becomes increasingly rampant and widespread in Hong Kong, many people may feel downhearted, helpless and insecure. To lift the spirit of the Hong Kong community in such trying times, the Department of Music has published a music video on its YouTube channel Live from HKBU with a message of optimism and hope.

More than 240 musicians and singers from the HKBU Symphony Orchestra and Choirs participated in the production of this special piece of music, titled Great is Thy Faithfulness. Professor Johnny Poon, Dr Hung Hin Shiu Endowed Professor in Music and Head of the Department of Music, and Dr Mimi Law, a lecturer of the Department of Music, jointly conducted the performance. Since the orchestra and choir members were not able to assemble amid the pandemic, they separately recorded their parts from multiple locations across the HKBU campus. Through their virtual musical efforts, they wish to encourage and comfort those in society who are suffering, and express heartfelt gratitude to healthcare workers who are battling the virus on the frontline.

Strength for today; bright hope for tomorrow.
