Student athletes from HKBU scored impressive achievements at the FISU World University Games 2023 held in Chengdu from 28 July to 8 August. Cheung Ka-long and Lau Chi-lung, students of the Physical Education and Recreation Management programme, brought home a total of two gold and one silver medals.
Ka-long and Chi-lung, respectively members of the Fencing Team and Wushu Team of Hong Kong, China, were among the 18 HKBU student athletes who competed in 28 events at the Games. Seizing gold in the Men’s Foil Individual event, Ka-long then played a pivotal role in leading his team to win the championship in the Men’s Foil Team event. Chi-lung earned a silver medal in the Men's Nanquan competition with his outstanding performance.
Colleagues from the Department of Sport, Physical Education and Health (SPEH) also contributed to the Games in various roles. Ms Assunta Ng, Lecturer of SPEH, was the coach of Hong Kong’s Badminton Team in the Games. She led the team to scoop their first-ever bronze medal in the Men’s Single event. In addition, Miss Elain Mak, Lecturer of SPEH, actively participated as a support team member of Hong Kong’s delegation.
