Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, was honoured with the Outstanding Achievement Award by The Professional Validation Council of Hong Kong Industries (PVCHK), in recognition of his contributions to foster the reindustrialisation with research and development, and maintain close ties with the industries.
The honour was presented to him by Mr Sze Chun-fai, Under Secretary for Education, at the Honorary Fellowship and Fellowship Conferment Ceremony organised by PVCHK. The Ceremony was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 6 September.
In his note of thanks, Professor Wai said the honour is not just a recognition of his work but also of HKBU. The award encourages him and the University to actively make continuous contributions to society. He shared that in the pursuit of success, we should be bold to try, dare to give and not be deterred by the lack of results. At the same time, we should also uphold our beliefs as they are the staunch foundation for us to overcome challenges.
Professor Wai cited Hong Kong’s current plan to use innovative technologies to realise “reindustrialisation” as an example of the city’s efforts to broaden its industrial structure and stay competitive. “As long as we believe in this direction of development, we can overcome various challenges with the cooperation and support of the Government and the industrial, innovative technology and academic sectors. It is just a matter of time before our local industries take off again, and Hong Kong's competitiveness restored in the near future,” he said.
