HKBU awarded honorary doctoral degrees to five distinguished individuals in recognition of their outstanding achievements and significant contributions to society during the 65th Commencement and Honorary Doctoral Degree Conferment Ceremony on 18 November.

Professor Michael Batty, Dr Bernard Charnwut Chan and Dr Yang Yang were awarded the degree of Doctor of Social Sciences, honoris causa; Dr Ronnie C Chan was bestowed the degree of Doctor of Business Administration, honoris causa; and Professor Tan Weihong was conferred the degree of Doctor of Science, honoris causa. In his address, Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor commended the honorary doctoral degree recipients for their exemplary achievements. “Their respect is earned not only from their talent and dedication, but also through their steadfast commitment to their passions, despite the challenges they faced. We can all draw inspiration from their successes,” he said.

To the graduates, Professor Wai highlighted the need for problem-solvers who are not only skilled in their fields, but are also able to leverage a diverse set of tools and perspectives to devise innovative solutions. He also reassured the graduates that the qualities of adaptiveness, resilience and perseverance they had gained over the past few years had prepared them to shape their own future.
