HKBU's ongoing commitment to excellence in teaching, learning and research has resulted in stellar achievements in influential global university rankings.

Ranking among the world's best universities

In the newly released Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2026, HKBU has climbed eight spots to 244th out of 1,500 institutions around the world. In the past two years, HKBU has continued to advance in this ranking, demonstrating that the University’s consistent effort in strengthening its transdisciplinary teaching, learning and research capabilities has been recognised internationally.

This league table ranks universities worldwide according to their performance in research and discovery, employability and outcomes, learning experience, global engagement, and sustainability. HKBU shows significant progress in the lens of research and discovery as well as global engagement. This is a testament to the University's achievements in integrating creative culture, technological applications and diverse learning experiences.

Excellence in contributing to sustainable development

HKBU has also made significant strides in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2025, rising from the 101-200th band last year to 69th place. It has also maintained its 2nd place global standing in “SDG 4: Quality Education” for two consecutive years.

This year, the THE Impact Rankings assess more than 2,500 universities from 130 countries or regions based on their progress towards the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Besides taking the 2nd highest spot for quality education, HKBU has also seen improvements in scores across multiple SDGs as it ranks in the top 100 for nine of the 17 SDGs, a significant increase from five SDGs last year.

The University's achievements in rankings reflect the commitment and efforts of HKBU faculty, staff and students in transdisciplinary teaching, learning and research to nurture outstanding talents, promote innovative research and the translation of outputs, and the implementation of effective campus management and corporate governance measures.

Going forward, HKBU will continue to enhance its curriculum and learning environment to foster a student community dedicated to serving society with creativity, global perspectives and diverse talents. By focusing on the key areas of creative media and practice, health and drug discovery, humanities and cultures, as well as data analytics and artificial intelligence, the University is set to lead in transdisciplinary and innovative research, while staying committed to translating research outputs into tangible benefits for society and contributing to its thriving development.
