More than 25,000 prospective secondary school students and visitors joined the Information Day for Undergraduate Admission at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) today (13 October). They gained the most up-to-date information on the University's development and its undergraduate programmes and experienced HKBU's unique campus life.
Today's featured events included four U-wide admissions talks for HKDSE students, students with international qualifications and Associate Degree and Higher Diploma students respectively. Visitors also met with HKBU scholars, students and alumni to learn more about individual programmes, admission requirements and career prospects at briefings and sharing sessions organised by various faculties and schools.
Four new undergraduate programmes will be offered by HKBU from 2019-20, subject to the formal approval by the University. The programmes are:
Bachelor of Music in Creative Industries:
The first of its kind in Hong Kong, the Programme will provide students with professional training in scoring and popular music performance for film, television, video games, and other visual media.
Bachelor of Science -- Bioresource and Agricultural Science Major:
The first and unique agriculture-related professional programme in Hong Kong, it focuses on the integration of agriculture with bioresource management with the aims to cultivate an understanding of the sustainable resource management through the social, ecological and environmental significance of the agriculture practices and bioresource conservation from the perspective of sustainability.
Geography/ History/ Sociology and Personal, Social and Humanities Education Teaching (Double Degree):
This education degree will provide students with a recognised teaching qualification, with competence in teaching the Personal, Social and Humanities Education (PSHE) Key Learning Area in local schools.
Bachelor of Science in Business Computing and Data Analytics:
This programme provides students with training in advanced programming and data-analytics skills, as well as to broaden their awareness of the business applications of these skills. It nurtures the next-generation business leaders with the latest technical know-how to succeed in fast-changing technologies for business.
HKBU Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) Dr Albert Chau said the new programmes are all developed based on HKBU's unique strength in its focused areas of creative media, health, humanities and artificial intelligence. Aimed at nurturing talents to cope with societal development and needs, the programmes demonstrate our HKBU spirit in striving for excellence, creativity and keeping abreast with the times, he added.
