Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) has announced today the appointment of Professor Arthur Mak Fuk-tat (麥福達教授) as the new Associate Vice-President (Student Experience) with effect from 26 August 2019.
Professor Mak has abundant experience in interdisciplinary teaching and research, as well as academic and student administration. This includes the design and implementation of the undergraduate curriculum, provision of general education and the implementation of outcome-based education, as well as matters related to student development and cultural promotion.
Professor Roland Chin, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, is delighted with the appointment. He said: "Professor Arthur Mak is a prolific scholar and administrator who has demonstrated substantial leadership throughout his career. I am confident that he will help the University deliver the best student experience as stipulated in our Institutional Strategic Plan (2018-2028)."
Professor Mak served as Associate Vice-President (Academic Development), Dean of Students, Head of the Jockey Club Rehabilitation Engineering Centre, Director of the Research Centre for Musculoskeletal Bioengineering, and Head of the Department of Health Technology and Informatics at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. At The Chinese University of Hong Kong, he served as Director of the Biomedical Engineering Programme and Head of the Graduate Division of Biomedical Engineering.
Professor Mak obtained his bachelor's degree in Engineering Mechanics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and his master's and PhD degrees from Northwestern University, USA. He also possesses a master's degree in Religion from Westminster Theological Seminary, USA.
As Associate Vice-President (Student Experience), Professor Mak will lead student development and oversee the co-curriculum, student support and wellness.
The open recruitment of the Associate Vice-President (Student Experience) was commenced in April 2019. The Search Committee consisted of senior members of the University, a lay member of the Council and a student representative.
