HKBU appoints Ms Christine Chow Oi-wan as Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary

The Council of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) has approved the appointment of Ms Christine Chow Oi-wan (鄒靄雲) as Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary with effect from 1 July 2020.

 

Ms Chow is currently Head of Finance (Information Technology, Customer and International Business Development) in The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC). Prior to joining HKJC, Ms Chow held several senior leadership roles at the PCCW Group, Hong Kong Broadband Network Limited and SmarTone Mobile Communications Limited.

 

Ms Chow received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from University of Washington, USA in 1987 and a master's degree in Business Administration from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2000. She is a Certified Internal Auditor and a Certified Management Accountant, USA.

 

Ms Chow has a proven record of increasing revenue, improving customer satisfaction, reducing costs, and enhancing standards. She led teams of professionals to complete corporate projects such as merger and acquisitions, IPO, establishing joint ventures, divestment projects, business and organisational restructuring, culture transformation, customer experience, organisation development, and process digitisation in Hong Kong, China, the UK, India, and Taiwan.

As Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary of HKBU, Ms Chow will provide administrative leadership in the University, proactive support to the University fit-for-purpose governance, overall effective risk management, and assistance to the Council and the Court. She will lead five administrative offices including the Estates Office, Finance Office, General Administrative Office, Office of Information Technology and Personnel Office and provide professional support service to the academic and other units of the University.

 

The University set up a Search Committee for the role of Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary in August 2019. The HKBU Council approved the Search Committee's recommendation of the appointment of Ms Chow at its meeting on 5 February 2020, following three consultation sessions for Ms Chow to meet students and members of the University community.
