The Department of Music at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) proudly presents Live from HKBU, a new YouTube channel, a digital concert platform, where the public can enjoy a wide range of classical music performed by student musicians from the HKBU Symphony Orchestra and the Collegium Musicum Hong Kong.
With many scheduled concert performances cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, the Department has selected highlights of some of its favourite concerts and shared them on the channel.
The new channel is an initiative under HKBU’s “Beat the virus, BU & I” campaign, which sets out to help the community overcome the huge challenge posed by the COVID-19 outbreak using the creative and caring DNA of HKBU students and staff.
Professor Johnny Poon, Head of the HKBU Department of Music, said: “The music never stops. While our student musicians wait patiently for the opportunity to perform in front of a live audience, we hope all Hong Kong people will join us on the YouTube channel to relive some of our most treasured musical moments at home, at a time when we are beating the coronavirus outbreak with resilience.”
On this channel, the public can hear HKBU students performing alongside a star-studded cast of international guest artists, including such musicians as Nicole Cabell (soprano), Mahan Esfahani (harpsichord), Anne Akiko Meyers (violin), Carole Cerasi (fortepiano), Rachel Lee Priday (violin), Bart van Oort (fortepiano), Melvyn Tan (piano), Eriko Daimo (marimba), Dan Zhu (violin), Liping Zhang (soprano), Mengla Huang (violin), Ryu Goto (violin), Robert Blocker (piano), Simone Lamsma (violin), Valentina Lisitsa (piano), Andrew von Oeyen (piano) and many more.
Currently a total of 27 concert videos are available on the channel for the enjoyment of the public. More videos will be added to the channel every week.
