Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) held the naming ceremony of the Cheung Ching Lan Diana Memorial Lecture Theatre on 25 September in recognition of the recent generous donation of HK$3.5 million from The Estate of Cheung Ching Lan Diana in support of the University’s strategic development.
The naming ceremony was officiated by Professor Roland Chin, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, and Ms Jenny Ng Ming-chun, Executor of The Estate of Cheung Ching Lan Diana.
In his address at the ceremony, President Chin expressed his gratitude to The Estate of Cheung Ching Lan Diana for its contributions to the University. He also expressed his heartfelt appreciation to Mr Charles Ng Ming-wah and Ms Jenny Ng Ming-chun, Executors of The Estate of Cheung Ching Lan Diana, for their staunch support of education in Hong Kong during this unprecedented and challenging time.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ms Jenny Ng Ming-chun shared that the late Cheung Ching Lan Diana was a benevolent philanthropist who made generous contributions to the education and medical sectors. She said: “Ms Cheung appreciated the University’s philosophy of whole person education and its commitment to nurturing outstanding talent for the benefit of the community.” Ms Ng said she hoped that the donation will enable the University to implement its Institutional Strategic Plan and achieve its aspiration of becoming a leading liberal arts University in Asia for the world.
The ten-year Institutional Strategic Plan of HKBU will enable the University to achieve its aspirations of delivering the best student experience, producing world-class research and sustaining academic excellence through investments in people, governance and facilities.
Guests attending the ceremony included the family members and friends of Ms Cheung Ching Lan Diana. Other HKBU representatives attending included Professor Guo Yike, Vice-President (Research and Development); Dr Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning); Ms Christine Chow, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary; Professor Arthur Mak, Associate Vice-President (Student Experience); Professor Ricky Wong, Associate Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) cum Academic Registrar; Mr Yeung Chee-kong, Associate Vice-President (Engagement); Professor Zhang Jianhua, Associate Vice-President (Global Research Collaboration); Professor Edward Snape, Dean of the School of Business; and Mrs Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation.
The Cheung Ching Lan Diana Memorial Lecture Theatre is located on the second floor of the Wing Lung Bank Building for Business Studies, and it provides comprehensive audio and visual facilities suitable for teaching and holding conferences.
