Wednesday, 30 Sep 2020

Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) held its 15th Honorary University Fellowship Conferment Ceremony today (30 September).

Honorary University Fellowships were conferred upon seven distinguished persons in recognition of their significant contributions to society and their staunch support of the University. This year's recipients include Mr Chan Koon-chung (陳冠中), renowned Sinophone writer; Dr Eddie Ho Kang-wai (何鏡煒), Chairman, Board of Directors of Hong Kong Baptist Hospital; Mr Michael Hui Wah-kit (許華傑), Managing Director of Freedom Industrial Corporation Limited; Dr Lee Shiu (李韶), Chairman of Lee Shiu Family Foundation Limited; Mr David Lee Wai-hung (李惠雄), former Chairman of the Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation; and Mr Song Dong (宋冬), renowned contemporary artist. In addition, Mr Kenneth Kwok Ka-ching (郭家政), Director of Eagle Wide Limited and one of last year's recipients, joined the Ceremony.

At today's Conferment Ceremony, Professor Roland Chin, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, acknowledged the seven Honorary University Fellowship recipients as models of excellence who are innovators, pioneers and leaders in their professions.

"The Honorary University Fellows personify what it means to have a positive impact on society, particularly in terms of the development of youth and the creative arts. Their vision is very much aligned with HKBU – that creativity can be in any form and in everything we do," said Professor Chin. He added that the Honorary University Fellows will certainly have an important role to play in sharing their wisdom, and showing HKBU's students what it means to be true leaders and innovators.

Speaking on behalf of the Honorary University Fellows, Dr Eddie Ho expressed their sincere gratitude to HKBU for bestowing this honour upon them. He said that they all believed that success should not be taken for granted as every small success is built on the small things that have been done.

Dr Ho said: "Every one of us has certain talents and opportunities and how well we utilise them determines the scope of our achievements. Although we may not know exactly how much potential we have, we should always do our best, and we should not be limited by our position or role. Instead, we should expand our contributions and make a bigger impact than our role can afford."
