HKBU congratulates Daniel Chan Ho-yuen on winning a bronze medal in the Badminton Men's Singles at the Paralympics

On behalf of the entire Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) community, Dr Clement Chen, Chairman of the Council and the Court, and Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University, would like to express their heartfelt congratulations to Daniel Chan Ho-yuen, a member of the Hong Kong Para-Badminton Team, for winning a bronze medal in the Badminton Men's Singles WH2 event at the Tokyo Paralympic Games today (5 September).
Daniel was awarded a scholarship under HKBU's Elite Athletes Admission Scheme to study on the Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education and Recreation Management programme at the University.
Dr Clement Chen said: "All HKBU staff members, students and alumni are overjoyed that Daniel clinched a bronze medal in the Badminton Men's Singles at the Paralympic Games. Daniel continues to push himself and he has trained extremely hard. We are proud of his marvellous achievement at the world's top sporting event today."
Professor Alexander Wai said: "Daniel has performed excellently in the Paralympic Games and he has demonstrated his superior skills and uncompromising fighting spirit. He rose up and became a stronger man after overcoming difficulties, and demonstrates to us what perseverance and courage means. We are inspired by his achievements and his successful journey to the pinnacle of the sport."
"The outstanding performance of Daniel, along with other members of the Hong Kong Paralympic delegation such as HKBU alumna Ho Yuen-kei, is a payoff of their endurance to the limit. Compared to other athletes, they need to overcome their physical limitations with perseverance and conquer exceptionally difficult challenges. HKBU will continue to offer sport-related programmes, conduct sport science research to help enhance athletes' performance, and support student athletes' academic and career development so as to contribute to the development of sport in Hong Kong," added Professor Wai.
