Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, praised the three honorary doctoral degree recipients who have led extraordinary lives and inspired many with their exceptional achievements. “The respect they command comes not only from their talent and hard work, but also from their determination to stay true to their vocation against all odds. We all stand to learn from their unwavering and generous spirit,” he said.
Professor Wai also encouraged the graduates to embrace the emergence of technologies. He said: “Instead of fearing technological progress, we should embrace it and use it constructively for everyone’s benefit. I hope that the past few years of transdisciplinary education at HKBU have impressed upon you the importance of keeping an open mind, especially when faced with something new.”
He added that regardless of the disciplines they graduated from, all graduates are technology users and can play a part in influencing how technologies are applied, thereby contributing to the growth and development of technology in various domains.
