Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) held a flag-raising ceremony on campus this morning (1 October) to celebrate the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
About 150 participants, including Council and senior management team members, staff members, alumni and students of the University, attended the ceremony. The HKBU Student Flag-raising Team raised the national flag alongside the Hong Kong SAR flag and the HKBU flag at the ceremony.
In his address at the ceremony, Dr Clement Chen, Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU, said: “Our nation has achieved remarkable developments and is now standing as the second-largest economy in the world. As educators in the Hong Kong SAR, we are entrusted with the mission of nurturing future leaders and guiding our youth towards a profound understanding of our nation’s development and the global landscape. At HKBU, we have always been striving for advancement and innovation in teaching, research and community service as a cornerstone of the nation’s development. We shoulder the vital responsibility of cultivating talents with international perspectives and leadership skills, and are committed to realising the nation’s educational aspirations.”
Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, said: “I am delighted that the HKBU community gathers in solidarity at the flag-raising ceremony on campus to celebrate the National Day. HKBU is deeply proud of the remarkable progress our nation has made in the past decades which has impressed the whole world. The University will continue to uphold its commitment to nurture young people to become future leaders, who will contribute to the nation’s prosperity and development.”
