Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) congratulates student Chan Ho-yuen and alumna Ho Yuen-kei on their excellent performances at the Paris Paralympic Games. Chan Ho-yuen, a member of the Para Badminton Team, Hong Kong, China, won the silver medal in the Badminton Men’s Singles WH2 event. It is the second time that Ho-yuen succeeded in clinching a medal at the Paralympic Games. Ho Yuen-kei, a member of the Boccia Team, Hong Kong, China, clinched the gold medal in the Boccia Women’s Individual BC3 event.
Professor Alex Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, said: “It is truly remarkable for both Ho-yuen and Yuen-kei to have achieved such outstanding results backed by their exceptional determination and capability. The entire HKBU community is excited about their achievement. Ho-yuen has always embraced challenges and undergone rigorous training in pursuit of his dreams, allowing him to shine at the top international sporting arena with his amazing performance. Yuen-kei has broken new ground and demonstrated her unparalleled hard work in competitions, achieving her best result at the Paralympic Games. Clinching these medals is a truly deserving reward for their efforts.”
“Together with Cheung Ka-long’s gold medal in the Men’s Foil Individual event at the Olympic Games, HKBU student athletes and alumni have secured three medals at this year’s Olympics and Paralympics arenas. I am delighted to see that HKBU’s support for the development of elite athletes is now bearing fruit and making positive contributions to the robust development of sports in Hong Kong,” said Professor Wai.
Chan Ho-yuen enrolled in HKBU through the Elite Athletes Admission Scheme (enhanced as “Talented Athletes Direct Admission Scheme” (TADAS) since 2022/23 academic year), and is currently studying in the Bachelor of Physical Education and Recreation Management programme at the University. He won a bronze medal in the Badminton Men’s Singles WH2 event at the Tokyo Paralympic Games in 2021. Ho Yuen-kei is an alumna of the Bachelor of Social Sciences in China Studies programme at HKBU. She won the third runner-up in the Mixed Pairs BC3 Boccia match at the Tokyo Paralympic Games in 2021.
