The Chinese Writers’ Workshop (CWW), founded by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), will host its “Distinguished Chinese Writers Series 2024” (DCWS). Mr Han Song, renowned science fiction writer in the Mainland, will share his insights with readers online at a literary public lecture and a writing masterclass on 30 and 31 October respectively.
Launched in 2020 with the generous sponsorship from the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, CWW is dedicated to promoting contemporary Chinese literature and culture and showcasing its diversity and rich aspects to society, the nation and the world. Every autumn, CWW invites a distinguished Chinese writer from different places around the world to visit HKBU.
Mr Han Song currently works in the media in Beijing and serves as the Deputy Director of the Science Fiction Committee of the Chinese Writers Association. He is renowned for his unique imagination and profound philosophical writing style. His delicate writing and impressive depiction of the future world have made him one of the most prominent writers in contemporary Chinese science fiction literature.
His notable works include 2066: Red Star Over America (2000), Red Ocean (2004), Subway (2010), and the Hospital trilogy consisting of Hospital (2016), Exorcism (2017), and Dead Souls (2018). Please refer to the attachment for his biography.
In this year’s DCWS, Mr Han Song will deliver a public lecture titled “Chinese Science Fiction: A Journey to Explore Other Strange Worlds” on 30 October to share his experience and insights in writing novels. He will also discuss how to establish the context of novels with the participants in his masterclass titled “Mastering Science Fiction Writing” on 31 October.
