HKBU confers Honorary University Fellowships on six distinguished persons

Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) held its 19th Honorary University Fellowship Conferment Ceremony today (26 September), conferring Honorary University Fellowships upon six distinguished persons, namely Dr Terence Chan Ho-wah (陳浩華博士), Ms Winsome Chow (周蕙心女士), Mr David Fong Man-hung (方文雄先生), Mr Lau Pak-shing (劉百成先生), Dr Susie Lum Shun-sui (林崇綏博士) and Mrs Virginia Yim Tsui Yuk-shan (嚴徐玉珊女士), in recognition of their outstanding contributions to a wide variety of areas and their support of society.

At the Ceremony, Professor Alex Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU said that the six Honorary University Fellowship recipients include visionary entrepreneurs and business leaders, dedicated arts administrators and healthcare professionals, and compassionate philanthropists. They command our respect, not only for their exceptional accomplishments, but also for their integrity, humility, and desire to give back to society.

“The Honorary University Fellows of HKBU exemplify the University’s mission through their distinguished contributions to society. Their marvellous achievements across diverse fields demonstrate a synergy of expertise and innovation, embodying HKBU’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and nurturing well-rounded individuals capable of addressing complex global challenges through a multi-faceted and transdisciplinary approach,” said Professor Wai.

Speaking on behalf of the Honorary University Fellows, Mr David Fong Man-hung expressed that they are greatly honoured by this award: “As we join the ranks of distinguished Fellows, we accept not only an honour, but also the profound responsibility that comes with it. We acknowledge our duty to continue to serve and contribute to the community that has given us so much.”

Mr Fong said that the Fong Shu Fook Tong Foundation and the Fong’s Family Foundation, established by his family, have always been long-standing supporters of HKBU. The Foundations have also launched more than 600 charitable initiatives in the Mainland, Hong Kong and around the world over the past few decades. “Together, we will continue to build on the foundation of service and philanthropy that defines our lives,” he added.
