The International Writers’ Workshop (IWW) of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) will host its annual Literary Festival from 10 to 12 March. Themed “Crossroads”, the Festival aims to explore the intersections of culture, creativity, and technology in the literary world.
The 2025 Writers-in-Residence Programme under IWW invited applications last year. Five writers have been selected from nearly 200 applications as the Writers-in-Residence and will participate in the Festival’s activities. They are Polish poet and translator Ms Krystyna Dąbrowska, Argentinian novelist and visual artist Mr Iosi Havilio, South Korean novelist Ms Insuk Kim, American novelist Ms Aube Rey Lescure, and Kazakh poet Ms Aigerim Tazhi. Each of these writers have unique strengths from diverse fields, offering a rich variety of perspectives and insights that will enrich the Festival’s discussions and activities. Please refer to the attachment for the biographies of the five writers.
The IWW Literary Festival will present a series of events, including the opening literary reading, panel discussion and writing workshops. While the writing workshops are exclusively for HKBU students, all other events are open to the public and free of charge. Those who are interested in joining can register online. Further details of the Festival can be found on the webpage of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and the Facebook page of the IWW.
About IWW
Founded in 2004, the IWW remains one of the signature programmes of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at HKBU. For 20 years, the IWW has hosted over 150 writers from more than 55 different countries, and it is one of the few writers-in-residence programmes in Asia. As a self-funded and non-profit initiative, the IWW has consistently organised free public events to promote literary and cultural exchanges between Hong Kong and the world. It has demonstrated HKBU’s commitment to the development of literature and art, serving as an important platform for promoting the advancement of literature in Hong Kong.
