Dr Kennedy Wong remarked that Mr Wong Kam Fai and Dr Peter KK Wong, grandfather and father of Mr Ivan Wong, were distinguished philanthropists who had made significant charitable contributions to the education and social services sectors in the Mainland and Hong Kong. He said: “After founding his own business, Mr Wong Kam Fai proactively devoted himself to philanthropy, especially focusing on education. He and Dr Peter KK Wong shared the educational philosophy of HKBU. They not only funded the construction of numerous primary and secondary schools in the Mainland, but also made donations to HKBU for establishing a ‘through-train’ school, the HKBU Affiliated School Wong Kam Fai Secondary and Primary School, and set up hundreds of scholarship and bursary schemes at HKBU and other education institutions, benefiting countless students.”
Dr Choi said, “The programme is mutually beneficial to the teaching and learning and research activities of the HKBU and the BNBU. The HKSAR Government will continue to actively participate in and foster higher education co-operation in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), and support Hong Kong higher education institutions to form multilateral and cross-discipline partnerships in the GBA Mainland cities. By synergising the complementary academic structures and facilities of Hong Kong and Mainland campuses, outstanding talent can be nurtured for the country's development.”
Mr Ivan Wong said: “The integration of higher education in the Greater Bay Area is becoming an important trend. By integrating the resources and strengths of Hong Kong and Guangdong, HKBU and BNBU will be able to nurture talents with vision, leadership and the readiness to serve, and foster innovation and collaborations that contribute to Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area and the nation.”
Launched in the 2023/24 academic year, the Extended Study Programme enables HKBU and BNBU students to study credit-bearing programmes at both the Kowloon Tong and Zhuhai campuses and participate in experiential learning activities. Students also have the opportunities to undertake internships at Fortune Global 500 companies.
