The 8th Cheung On Tak International Award for Outstanding Contribution to Chinese Medicine, launched by the School of Chinese Medicine at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), is now accepting nominations. Scholars and both local and non-local academic institutions, including universities, research institutes and relevant departments and academic societies at or above the provincial/ministerial level in the Mainland, are welcome to submit nominations. The deadline for nominations is 30 June 2025.
With the rapid development of traditional Chinese medicine worldwide, its role in the healthcare systems of many countries has become increasingly important. HKBU has therefore established the Cheung On Tak International Award for Outstanding Contribution to Chinese Medicine since 2011. This biennial award recognises scientists and scholars who have made groundbreaking and internationally recognised achievements in advancing the internationalisation of Chinese medicine or in Chinese medicine research. It also aims to foster the development as well as the internationalisation and modernisation of Chinese medicine for the benefit of the global community.
A distinguished panel of adjudicators, comprising renowned scholars and scientists from related fields, will select the awardee(s) based on their contributions to the Chinese medicine sector, their achievements in advancing its internationalisation, and their academic or professional influence in the international arena.
The winner of the award will receive a monetary prize of HK$500,000. In the event of more than one award being conferred, the prize will be shared equally among the winners. The selection of the awardees is expected to be completed by the end of this year, with the award ceremony-cum-lecture by the recipient(s) scheduled for 2026.
