HKBU visual arts graduating students present artworks at the “GeeLeeGooLoo” graduation show

The Academy of Visual Arts (AVA) under the School of Creative Arts at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) will present its 18th AVA Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Visual Arts Graduation Show at the HKBU Kai Tak Campus from 31 May to 22 June.

Themed “GeeLeeGooLoo” (嘰哩咕嚕), which encapsulates the sounds that arise from immersive art-making processes and lively discussions, this vibrant exhibition will feature the oeuvres of over 130 graduating students. Through animated conversations, students transform their thoughts into unique artworks, showcasing not only their individuality and self-determination, but also demonstrating the unity of a community. Like an abstract sound, inspiration often goes unnoticed in everyday life. Yet at the Graduation Show, the unique voice of each student resonates vividly, coming together in a powerful, expressive symphony. The Kai Tak Campus, a Grade I historic building, serves as a dynamic backdrop for the Graduation Show. Showcasing artworks against this setting, where history, contemporary arts, time and space intersect, carries special significance.

Graduation Show

The opening ceremony, by invitation only, will be held on 30 May. From 31 May, visitors can attend the exhibition free of charge by making an online reservation.

AVA Fest

AVA graduating students will also host AVA Fest, an annual art festival that forms a vibrant part of the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Visual Arts Graduation Show, offering a platform for local artists to showcase their remarkable creations and celebrate their creativity.

The Fest will feature screen-printing and cyanotype workshops, allowing participants to explore these special art mediums and learn more about the creative process. There will also be art and game stalls, alongside the DJ live performances. Remarks: In the event of adverse weather conditions (Typhoon Signal No.8 or above, “Extreme Conditions”, Red or Black Rainstorm Warning), AVA Fest will be postponed to 15 June 2025 (Sunday).
