Led by Dr the Hon Kennedy Y H Wong, Chairman of the Council and the Court of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), approximately 300 HKBU members—including Professor Alex Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor; Council and Court members, senior management team members, faculty, staff, alumni, and students—attended a flag-raising ceremony on campus in the morning today (1 October) to celebrate the 76th anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China.
The National flag, along with the flag of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the flag of HKBU, were solemnly raised by the HKBU Student Flag-raising Team.
In his address, Dr the Hon Kennedy Y H Wong, Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU, said that over the past 76 years, our Nation has stood up and become prosperous and strong, achieving extraordinary accomplishments in different aspects such as economy, technology and culture that have impressed the world. Our Nation is progressing towards its grand objective of becoming a strong power in science and technology by 2035, building itself into a great country through Chinese modernisation, and realising its second centenary goal.
Dr Wong said: “University education is a pivotal stage for shaping young people’s life, value and global perspectives. As a higher education institution in Hong Kong, HKBU remains committed to promoting patriotism, and cultivating students with moral integrity, global horizon and national pride, thereby nurturing talents for the future development of the Nation and Hong Kong.”
The flag-raising ceremony gathered the HKBU community to celebrate the National Day, honour our motherland’s remarkable achievements over the past decades, and share the joy and pride of our Nation’s prosperity and strength.
