HKBU to confer Honorary University Fellowships on five distinguished persons

Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) has announced the conferment of Honorary University Fellowships on five distinguished persons, namely Mr Paulo Pong Kin-yee (龐建貽先生), Mr Ivan Wong Siu-kei (王紹基先生), Professor Edward Yau Tang-wah (邱騰華教授), Mr Tony Yue Kwok-leung (余國樑先生) and Ms Zhou Chunling (周春玲女士), in recognition of their significant contributions to a wide variety of areas and to society. The Honorary University Fellowship Conferment Ceremony will be held on 16 September.

Mr Paulo Pong Kin-yee

Mr Paulo Pong Kin-yee is a visionary entrepreneur, an avid patron of arts and culture, and a prominent leader in the development of tourism in Hong Kong. He founded Altaya Group International Limited and combined his entrepreneurial drive and cultural sense to fuel his commitment to public service.

Enthusiastic about social service, Mr Pong currently serves as Chairman to the Board of the Ocean Park Corporation, Board Member of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, Chairman of the Board of M Plus Museum Limited, and Member of the Hong Kong Film Development Council. He was also Member of the Hong Kong Tourism Board and Member of Hong Kong Arts Development Council. The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) appointed him a Justice of the Peace in 2018 and awarded him the Bronze Bauhinia Star in 2024.

Over the years, Mr Pong has provided his steadfast support to HKBU. He currently serves as an Honorary Court Member of the University and as Chairman of both the Governing Board and the Tenancy Committee of the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre, an HKBU subsidiary. He served as Member of the University’s Council and Court and contributed as Deputy Chairman of the Campus Development and Facilities Management Committee, and Member of the Audit Committee and the Sub-committee on Jockey Club Campus of Creativity Project.

Mr Ivan Wong Siu-kei

Mr Ivan Wong Siu-kei is a distinguished business and community leader whose influence spans public governance, energy infrastructure, commercial associations, education and training, social welfare, as well as sports and culture.

Mr Wong is currently the Vice Chairman of Kum Shing Group. He has actively devoted himself to public and community service, serving in several positions, such as Member of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Standing Committee Member of The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong, and Chairman of its Education and Training Committee, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong United Foundation (a non-profit think tank), Director of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, Director of The Football Association of Hong Kong, China, and Council Member of the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre. The Government of the HKSAR appointed him a Justice of the Peace in 2021.

Mr Wong enjoys a profound bond with HKBU, and he has actively served the University since his graduation in 2006. He has established scholarships through the “Wong Kam Fai & Wong Kwok Keung Foundation” to support students at HKBU in undertaking internships in the Chinese Mainland and Belt and Road countries and regions. He currently holds positions as the University’s Court Member, Member of the Board of Governors and Co-Chairman of the Young Entrepreneur Committee of the HKBU Foundation. As the Executive Chairman of the “Wong Kam Fai & Wong Kwok Keung Foundation”, he has generously donated to and fully supported HKBU’s “One University, Two Campuses” initiative.

Professor Edward Yau Tang-wah

Professor Edward Yau has a long and distinguished career spanning both government and the non-governmental sector. He has served across different echelons and functions within the Government of the HKSAR, and more recently as an advocate of inclusive education for persons with disabilities, empowering communities and inspiring greater social harmony and cohesion.

Dedicated to serving the Government of the HKSAR for over four decades, Professor Yau held the positions of Deputy Director-General of Trade and Industry, Director-General of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Washington, D.C., Deputy Secretary for Education and Manpower, Director of Information Services, Secretary for the Environment, Director of the Chief Executive’s Office, and Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development. He was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star in 2011 and appointed a Justice of the Peace by the Government of the HKSAR in 2022.

Upon departing from the Government of the HKSAR, Professor Yau has served as Chairman of the Council of the Hong Chi Association (HCA). Under his leadership, HCA has sought to highlight the abilities of intellectually disabled children while creating opportunities that enable their growth and enrich their lives. In 2024, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between HCA and HKBU, establishing a long-term partnership to support individuals with intellectual disabilities and promote greater inclusiveness.

Mr Tony Yue Kwok-leung

A distinguished leader in the construction industry by profession with a lifelong passion for sport, Mr Tony Yue Kwok-leung has dedicated many decades of his life to the promotion, governance, and strategic development of competitive sports for Hong Kong at local, regional, and international levels.

Mr Yue, Director of Wo Hing Construction Company Limited, has written his name into Hong Kong’s sporting history. He has served as the Vice-President of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China since 2006, and as the current Chairman of the Hong Kong, China Table Tennis Association, and the Honorary Life Secretary General of the Asian Table Tennis Union. He was elected Member of the Board of Directors of the International Table Tennis Federation, appointed as the Chef de Mission for the Hong Kong, China Delegation to the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games and the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games, and served as the Deputy Chef de Mission for the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games. He also served as Chairman of the Elite Sports Committee of the Sports Commission and Member of the Sports Commission of the Government of the HKSAR. He was awarded the Medal of Honour in 2003 and Bronze Bauhinia Star in 2016 by the Government of the HKSAR. In addition, he was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 2008 by the Government of the HKSAR.

Mr Yue has also offered invaluable advice on the development of education programmes of HKBU. He was Advisor of the China Studies Programme, and Chairman of the Advisory Committee of the Department of Sports and Health Sciences (then known as the Department of Physical Education).

Ms Zhou Chunling

Ms Zhou Chunling is an entrepreneur and community leader of exceptional calibre and virtue, driven by a clear vision and a strong sense of national identity. She serves as Director of HK Yongan International Investment Company Limited and Executive Chairman of Sunrise Hong Kong Foundation. She has been committed to the promotion of environmental protection and conservation, thereby contributing to China’s sustainable development.

Ms Zhou is dedicated to public service. She has been Member of the 12th, 13th and currently the 14th National Committees of the CPPCC. She is currently Standing Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Association for Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China, Co-President of the Greater Bay Area Importers and Exporters Association, Honorary President of the Hong Kong Industrial & Commercial Association, and Advisory Committee Member of the One Country Two Systems Research Institute. She has also served as Member of the 5th China Economic and Social Council, and Vice-President of the Guangdong Overseas Friendship Association. In 2019, she played a key role in founding the Hong Kong-Russia Cultural Exchange Centre and has since served as its Secretary-General. The Government of the HKSAR appointed her a Justice of the Peace in 2020 and honoured her with the Bronze Bauhinia Star in 2024.

Ms Zhou has a deep connection with HKBU, having graduated from HKBU with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in 2004. In the same year, she established the HKBU MBA (China) Alumni Association Shenzhen Chapter and served as its founding President. In 2025, she was appointed Adjunct Professor by HKBU’s School of Business.
