HKBU congratulates student athletes Ma Kwan-ching and Shanna Forrest for winning medals at the Asian Games

Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) students Ma Kwan-ching and Shanna Forrest delivered excellent performances at the 20th Asian Games today (3 October). Ma Kwan-ching, a member of the Windsurfing Team of Hong Kong, China, earned the silver medal in the Women’s iQFOiL event; and Shanna Forrest, together with her teammates at the Women’s Rugby Team of Hong Kong, China, took home the bronze medal in the Women’s Rugby Sevens. HKBU extends its heartfelt congratulations to them.

Professor Alex Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, said, “Windsurfing is a sport that requires accurate timing, favourable conditions and teamwork. With years of dedicated training and extensive competition experience, Kwan-ching remained composed with a stable performance, fully demonstrating Hong Kong, China Team’s leading strength in windsurfing in Asia. HKBU is deeply proud of Kwan-ching and wishes her every success as she continues to sail through her journey ahead and makes new breakthroughs in both sports and her academic studies.”

Professor Wai also said, “Rugby Sevens demands speed, strength and teamwork. Striving together with her teammates and pushing boundaries consistently, Shanna achieved another outstanding result at this Asian Games after winning a bronze medal at the last Asian Games. It fully demonstrates the indomitable spirit of the Women’s Rugby Team of Hong Kong, China. Shanna has once again achieved remarkable success in international competition and the HKBU community is proud of her.”

Ma Kwan-ching was admitted to HKBU through the Elite Athletes Admission Scheme, while Shanna Forrest joined HKBU through the Talented Athletes Direct Admission Scheme. All of them are students in the Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education and Recreation Management programme.
