Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) welcomed over 10,000 secondary school students, parents and teachers to its Information Day for Undergraduate Admissions today (3 October).

HKBU’s faculties and schools – including the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, School of Business, School of Chinese Medicine, School of Communication, School of Creative Arts, Faculty of Science and Technology, Division of Transdisciplinary Undergraduate Programmes and HKBU College of International Education* – organised more than 100 activities and talks. These included piano masterclass, recording studio workshop, screen acting, VR/AR game experience, glass blowing and Chinese calligraphy. Admissions talks for applicants taking different qualifications were all well-attended, among which the talk for HKDSE applicants attracted over 1,000 audiences.

At the admissions talk, Dr Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) of HKBU shared the University’s curriculum development and its commitment to preparing students for the future. On teaching and learning, HKBU faculty members received the University Grants Committee (UGC) Teaching Awards over the years, in recognition of their dedication to teaching excellence. The University’s innovative and flexible curriculum design has received wide recognition, reflecting the collective efforts of its teaching teams and their achievements in advancing transdisciplinary education. HKBU’s flexible curriculum enables students to pursue a Transdisciplinary Second Major (TSM) or a Second Major (SM) alongside their first major, equipping graduates to stand out in an increasingly interconnected world.

This year, HKBU has a number of new developments: the Faculty of Science and Technology’s adoption of its new name in September; the introduction of a new major in Applied Psychological Science in Bachelor of Arts (Hons) / Bachelor of Social Sciences (Hons) (JS2610); the split of Bachelor of Arts (Hons) / Bachelor of Music (Hons) (Music / Creative Industries) into two distinct programme choices (JS2030 and JS2050); the retitling of Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) in Chinese Medicine as Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) in Chinese Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences (JS2420); and the retitling of Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Business Computing and Data Analytics as Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Business Analytics and Artificial Intelligence (JS2910). Participants actively visited the booths to learn about the latest developments in and details of the undergraduate programmes and explore HKBU’s diverse learning opportunities.

One of the highlights of the Information Day was the screening and showcasing of the work of students and graduates, offering insights into their learning journeys and opportunities to appreciate their achievements. Live music, singing and dance performances by students further demonstrated students’ creativity and the vibrant campus life at HKBU.

In addition, participants visited the Jockey Club Campus of Creativity and Village CARE, where they experienced how HKBU integrates creative education with residential life. They toured learning facilities for music, film and other creative arts, including the innovative Jockey Club White Box Experimental Space, exploring integrated art-tech learning through immersive audiovisual projection systems. Participants also visited the Robotics Lab to learn about the applications of robotic arms, laser cutters and 3D printers in digital fabrication and prototyping.

As HKBU celebrates its 70th anniversary this year, participants learnt about HKBU’s history by visiting the newly renovated HKBU History Gallery and the BU Bridge, gaining a deeper understanding of the University’s development from multiple perspectives.
