Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) held a naming ceremony yesterday (28 May) for the “Yim Tsui Yuk Shan Innovation Hub – TriAngle” in recognition of the generous donation of HK$10 million from Dr Stanley Yim, Chairman and Managing Director of S.A.S. Dragon Holdings Limited, and Mrs Virginia Yim, Director of S.A.S. Electric Company Limited. The donation has been used to support the University’s “Extended Study Programme in Greater Bay Area” and the “Frontier Translational Medical Research Institute”.
The ceremony was officiated by Mrs Janet Lee, wife of the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; Dr Stanley Yim and Mrs Virginia Yim; Dr Kennedy Y H Wong, Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU and Chairman of the Board of Governors of the HKBU Foundation; and Professor Alex Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU.
In his address, Dr Kennedy Y H Wong expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Dr and Mrs Yim for their unwavering support to the University over the years and highly commended the Yim family for promoting the development of HKBU in various capacities, fully demonstrating their philanthropic family spirit. He noted that this year marks the 70th anniversary of HKBU, making their donation especially significant. The donation has been supporting students’ participation in the Extended Study Programme in Greater Bay Area, fostering youth exchange and learning between the Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong; and the Frontier Translational Research Medicine Institute, led by Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine Sir Michael Houghton, advancing medical breakthroughs and technology transfer for the benefit of society.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Stanley Yim thanked the University for naming TriAngle, a social innovation hub, after his wife. He remarked, “I resonate deeply with HKBU’s mission to nurture diverse talent and drive social innovation. It is my hope that this contribution will give back to society through the two pillars of ‘talent cultivation’ and ‘scientific research transformation’. I also hope that the ‘Yim Tsui Yuk Shan Innovation Hub – TriAngle’ will nurture young people’s caring spirit, creativity and interdisciplinary thinking, encouraging them to think beyond traditional frameworks, respond to societal needs with innovation, and act with compassion.”
Located at the heart of the Shaw Campus and spanning approximately 3,000 square feet, the Yim Tsui Yuk Shan Innovation Hub – TriAngle, a co-working space, has hosted approximately 500 events and attracted more than 12,000 participants since its inception in 2020. The Hub provides guidance on technology and project development, seed funding, and training for competitions, helping students turn their creativity into practice, while nurturing forward-looking talents and promoting academic and social development.
Other guests attending the ceremony included family members and friends of Dr and Mrs Yim, as well as HKBU representatives: Dr Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning); Ms Christine Chow, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary; and Mrs Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation.
Dr and Mrs Yim have been long-standing supporters of HKBU. HKBU conferred an Honorary Doctorate of Business Administration on Dr Stanley Yim in 2019, and an Honorary University Fellowship on Mrs Virginia Yim in 2024, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to society and the education sector.
