Ms Rosanna Choi is a seasoned auditor who has made an outstanding contribution to the accounting profession and is an ardent supporter of the University’s development.  Prior to establishing CW CPA with her partner, Mr Thomas Wong, she worked at a local accounting firm and became a partner in 1995.  During the following decades, the firm grew rapidly and expanded its range of services from accounting to a wide spectrum of other expert services.  In 2017, Ms Choi became one of the two founding partners of CW CPA and is currently in charge of the firm’s audit and assurance, China consulting and tax advisory services.  She chairs the firm’s Technical Committee and IT committee, both of which aim to improve productivity by enhancing staff skills and promoting the effective use of information technology.

Despite having such a busy professional agenda, Ms Choi has shown unwavering commitment to the betterment of society.  In 2011, she was elected Chairperson of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Hong Kong, and she plays a very active role in ACCA Global where she serves as Chairperson of ACCA’s Global Forum for Small and Medium Enterprises.  In addition, her contribution has been instrumental in the development of innovative social enterprises in Hong Kong.  She is one of the Directors of Social Ventures Hong Kong—a social venture philanthropy foundation.  She has also extended her community reach to the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, the Urban Renewal Authority, the Board of Inland Revenue, the Government’s Business Facilitation Advisory Committee, and the Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited (HKCMCL).  In recognition of her team’s achievements, Ms Choi, together with the other board members of HKCMCL, received the Director of the Year Award from the Hong Kong Institute of Directors in 2013.

Ms Choi has also been deeply engaged in the affairs of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU).  She played an integral part in leading the Task Force on Review of the HKBU Ordinance.  The wise counsel and professional advice that she had rendered to the Council guided the University through a critical period in its growth and development.  She has also served as Deputy Chairman of the Finance Committee, a member of the Audit Committee, and a member of the Council.  She is currently a School Manager for the HKBU Affiliated School Wong Kam Fai Secondary and Primary School.

Beyond a shadow of a doubt, Ms Choi is wholeheartedly dedicated to nurturing young people in Hong Kong, including those associated with HKBU, and frequently shares her rich experience with students and other young people.  Indeed, Ms Choi imparts wisdom and sage advice to our freshmen who will one day spread their wings and pursue their own careers.  Her judicious insights are drawn from her observations on the constantly accelerating pace of change in the business world.

First and foremost, Ms Choi says that it is essential for youngsters to become lifelong learners. In a volatile business environment, they need to continuously update their knowledge and skills.  Secondly, she advises youngsters to use technology and technological change to their advantage.  She opines that “technology and artificial intelligence will not replace the professions, but rather it will be used to enhance the performance of professionals”.  Thirdly, youngsters should be visionary.  Today, one must anticipate change and be proactive in managing it.  Ms Choi encourages youngsters to be critical thinkers and problem solvers because “change often produces unique problems that require novel and creative solutions”.  Finally, she urges youngsters to think beyond their profession and ensure that they give something back to society.  She observes: “Recognising the impact that one can have at both the organisational and societal levels is part of being a well-rounded person”.

Ms Choi has made extraordinary contribution to the accounting profession and has leveraged this expertise to support the development of HKBU and the wider community.
