In recognition of his very considerable career accomplishments Mr Leung was elected Honorary Certified Financial Management Planner of The Hong Kong Institute of Bankers in 2006.
Today the University is deeply honoured by how Mr Leung has committed his experience and leadership to the development of his alma mater. On 1 January 2007, he was appointed as Treasurer to the University Council and Court. Over his six-year term he worked closely with senior management to develop the University’s long-term financial strategy. Furthermore, he has served as Treasurer of the Board of Governors and Chairman of the Alumni Committee of the Hong Kong Baptist University Foundation since its establishment in early 2009. He has inspired the fundraising strategy of the Foundation, and transformed the partnership between alumni, students, and the University. He introduced the Alumni Sharing Forum in 2011 to provide career guidance to graduating students and interested alumni. Mr Leung continues to make donations to his alma mater in support of its institutional advancement and alumni activities, many of which focus on the development of sports activities. As a keen sports figure he is no stranger to the Joint Sports Centre, and regularly serves as chief track event umpire at the University’s athletic meets.
Mr Leung has similarly contributed to the development of sports and cultural activities across Hong Kong. Between 2005 and 2010 he was appointed by the Government of the HKSAR as a member of the Hong Kong Sports Commission. His work on behalf of the 2008 Olympic Hong Kong Equestrian Fund Raising Committee was formally recognised by the 2008 Beijing Olympic Committee. He has served as Chairman of the Hong Kong Dance Company, and helped ensure the long term viability of this government-funded and non-profit-making institution through his leadership. In 2008, he was appointed by the Government of the HKSAR to serve on the Council of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and is currently the Council Chairman of the Academy. He also serves as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (an HKBU community project), and as a member of the Public Engagement Committee of the West Kowloon Cultural District. Emblematic of his continuing commitment to the development of Hong Kong, Mr Leung was appointed Justice of the Peace on 1 July 2005 and honoured with a Bronze Bauhinia Star on 1 July 2009 by the Government of the HKSAR.
Mr Leung’s tireless contributions to the financial and cultural vitality of Hong Kong Baptist University and Hong Kong have been most invaluable.
