Associate Vice-President (Undergraduate Programmes)

 

Professor William Kwok-wai Cheung is currently Associate Vice-President (Undergraduate Programmes), Professor in the Department of Computer Science, and Director of Centre of Health Informatics at Hong Kong Baptist University. He served as Head of the Department of Computer Science from 2017 to 2021. During his headship, an interdisciplinary concentration on Data and Media Communication and an interdisciplinary undergraduate programme on Business Computing and DataAnalytics were launched via collaboration with the School of Communication and the School of Business, respectively. He is an Affiliate Member of the School of Information Studies, McGill University, Canada since November 2016. He visited the School as a Visiting Professor in 2016. He was also a Visiting Scholar at the Information Sciences Institute, University of Southern California, USA, in 2007.

Professor Cheung received his BSc and MPhil degrees in Electronics from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1991 and 1993 respectively, and a PhD degree in Computer Science from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 1999. His current research interests include artificial intelligence, data mining, social network analysis, and healthcare informatics. He has served as the Co-Chairs and members of Program Committees for a number of international conferences and workshops on artificial intelligence, machine learning, data mining, Web intelligence, and health informatics. He had also served as Associate Editor and later the Managing Editor of the IEEE Intelligent Informatics Bulletin from 2002-2018. He is currently a Track Editor of the Web Intelligence and an Associate Editor of both the Journal of Health Information Research and Network Modeling Analysis in Health Informatics and Bioinformatics.
